The Sidewalk Queen

from May All Your Days Be Gold by Ian Taylor

/

lyrics

the Sidewalk Queen she stands selling things with a smiling on her painted face. her sometimes fella holds her umbrella as he stands in the pouring rain. and the people in gold pour into the cold, up and down the street. they drift right along to their sad warm homes without a look to the Queen.

and there's nothing I could say to pull her away from the man that stands by her side. and there's nothing I could be to swim through the sea's that hide behind her eyes. so I got too high and I started to cry cause I'm nothing compared to her. so I drove through the rain cursing my name, hoping I wouldn't make it home.

she knows there's no use in speaking aloof of things like love and hate, and I know it's no good to promise I could so I stay resigned to my fate. that I'll die alone like a dog wandering off, never to be found. she won't notice at all that I am gone cause she's happy bound.

and there's nothing I could say to pull her away from the man that stands by her side. and there's nothing I could be to swim through the sea's that hide behind her eyes. so I got too high and I started to cry cause I'm nothing compared to her. so I drove through the rain cursing my name, hoping I wouldn't make it home.
