Canyon Lizard Blues #3

from Lamentations by Ian Taylor

/

lyrics

way up in the canyon
there's a lizard with no tail
a king with no companion
although once she was there
& way down in the valley
there's a helpless rich man's child
who couldn't afford pain that matched his salary
henceforth decides to drown

" it's the end of the world only in america "
that's what Magdalena says 'fore she hopped the 33rd bus
to stranger's strangest Hollywood -
I'd write a novel if I could.

so some sweetheart companion
has sucked you up & left you dry
by not doing what you did & had expected
the beauty on the other side of the sky
so you leave her to her own trinket toys
& hope she comes back in a little while
from her own outer spaces & australian boys
& loves me in that mother haunting style

it's the end of the world only in america
that's what Magdalena says 'fore she hopped the 33rd bus
to stranger's strangest Hollywood -
I'll write a novel if I should.
