Tangerine Deep (Pied Piper Shoes)

from I'm Your Holliday by Ian Taylor

/

lyrics

in pied piper shoes,
moanin' Mona's blues,
trying to pay your dues, trying to make it through
all the infomercials america has to offer;
all the red carpet rides wading in limousine tides
& everywhere you look there's patches on most everyone's third eye

& you wake while everyone's still in bed
so you make all your secret songs in stead

then you leap out the window & up on a cloud that rode
you out to the east coast then west for Chicago
where as a tall bridge you quivered
heavy you were as the east river
at times you were captain, some billy the kid giver,
the loneliest captive of a big apple's white winter

but you cried when anyone turned around
& you tried not to be followed down

so you split down the southeast for a quaint place to get clean
then a shedding of old dreams, your own hell in New Orleans,
& a soft night with family & old friends who'd treat you sweet
then back out the window & up on your cold feet
out of the shallow & into the tangerine deep

but try your best to retain,
for there'll only always be now & again.
